Pressure Mounts to Remove Rep Swalwell From Intel Committee

More than a dozen Republican lawmakers have sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging her to consider removing Rep. Eric Swalwell from his position on the House Intelligence Committee. Swalwell is in trouble for failing to report his relationship with a Chinese spy named Fang Fang from five years ago. Fang, who also goes by the name Christina Fang, came to American on a student visa in 2011 and immediately began sleeping with a number of midwestern mayors and other politicians. She met Swalwell when he was a city councilman in California and even helped fundraise for his 2014 campaign. Fang also helped to place at least one intern in Rep. Swalwell’s office.

Swalwell was briefed by federal investigators about Fang in 2015 and immediately cut ties with her. At this point he is not accused of violating any laws, although his integrity has been brought into question for failing to disclose this potentially compromising relationship.

In the letter, Republicans also pointed out that Pelosi claimed that former Attorney General Jeff Sessions was unfit to serve and pressured him to resign in 2017 after he failed to report a meeting with the Russian Ambassador.

Pelosi has indicated that she will not act on the letter, stating “I don’t have any concerns about Rep. Swalwell.”
