Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Diagnosed with Coronavirus

( – Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi has confirmed that he is infected with coronavirus. He said he’s voluntarily quarantining himself and has started medication to treat the disease.

During a press conference on Monday, Harirchi could be seen wiping sweat from his forehead while he insisted that the government was being honest about the scale of the coronavirus outbreak in the country:

According to official reports, 95 cases have been confirmed in Iran. However, many people believe the government is downplaying the epidemic and the true number of cases in the country is much higher.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says that the sharp rise in the number of coronavirus patients is “deeply concerning” and they warn that the outbreak could become a pandemic.

Iran has seen more deaths than anywhere else besides China, where the outbreak began. Northern Italy and South Korea are also dealing with a high number of coronavirus cases.

Mahmoud Sadeghi, an MP in the Iranian capital of Tehran, has also tested positive for the disease this week.

“I don’t have a lot of hope of continuing life in this world,” he tweeted.

So far, 80,000 cases of the novel coronavirus have been reported throughout the world and 2,700 have died from the disease.
